His cycle with Portugal had ended because he wanted a new experience with a club.

"There was nothing we could do. It was a financial matter and we could not match the offer Chelsea."

The Portugal have also had to cope with the distraction of Cristiano Ronaldo Club situation.

The 23-year-old star is under contract to Manchester United, Real Madrid, but are hell-bent on bringing him to the Bernabeu for the next campaign.

Ronaldo admitted after the 3-2 defeat he will discuss his future with United in the coming days.

"I do not know what's happening in the spirit of Ronaldo and I do not think this contract problems likely to affect a player," said Madail.

"It is normal for players to tackle these issues. I do not think it interferes and I do not see any problem with Ronaldo."

If you leave the competition quarter-final stage was a huge disappointment for Portugal, which was one of the biggest teams in the event.

They showed a lot of flair, but ultimately was blocked against a determined Germany.

"I was very disappointed by the game yesterday," said Madail.

"Everybody saw Portugal is a strong team.

"There is no way our disposal is fair, but the result is fair in the night, Germany won 3-2 and we made mistakes and were made to pay.

"Good luck for Germany, but the best of luck in Spain".

Portugal will now have the difficult task of finding a replacement for Scolari.

The Brazil led to the final of Euro 2004 and fourth place in the World Cup in Germany two years ago.

Portugal will now turn their attention qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and will announce early next month, which will succeed Scolari.

Madail said: "What some people want it or not, he (Scolari) has left a mark in Portuguese football.

"He is a coach who made a huge impact and will remain in the history of Portugal. But life goes on.

"(The new coach) will have to speak Portuguese but not necessarily be Portuguese.

"It must have the ambition and be a winner. stressed the importance of a return to the Premier League in the next three years when they took charge in September.

Rangers face Barnsley at home on the opening day and Dowie told the club's official website: "The players are as good as they have always been positive and an early season is essential.

"I am a firm believer that you need to go on a pair of eight to 10 match unbeaten works if you want to be competitive come the company end of the campaign."

Kevin Blackwell has presided over a resumption of regular fortune to Sheffield United, after replacing Bryan Robson in February.

The blades closely missed the play-offs last term and will travel to promotion rivals Birmingham on the opening day of the new campaign on August 9.

Blackwell is confident his side a strong challenge for a berth Premier League, saying: "We are Sheffield United and we are confident on two fronts.

"We can beat anyone at Bramall Lane, and how we finished last term has convinced us that our team will take some beating."

Nottingham Forest reward for returning the second tier of English football after an absence of three years is a plum opening day home game against Reading.

Forest boss Colin Calderwood admitted: "Playing the reading on the opening day is one of the most difficult we could have and it will be a real examination of where we are as a team."

Swansea won promotion to the championship Champions League and face a testing trip to Charlton, who hope to build a stronger promotion of this challenge last season.

Crystal Palace and Watford both tasted type='text'>Fabio Capello predict good future for the England

Fabio Capello wants to add a touch of fantasy football team, he said, take England to the World Cup within two years.

The England skipper was said by Luiz Felipe Scolari and Marcello Lippi how a tight-knit team pulling together is essential to win the biggest prize in football - as they did with Brazil and Italy respectively - but also wants Capello flair.

Unleashing the "fantasy" in his players is now the key to Capello, he feels as a unit was established after its first four games since taking charge.

"I remember the first game when we played in Switzerland, I was very worried because I did not mind and features English," he said. But after four games I am very happy because, step by step, we have evolved and found the spirit of the group.

"These are the characteristics of England players, but I was surprised by the fact many players are technically very good - very, very good.

"There are also actors with imagination and is very important at this time. Now, football is a modern formation of 9-1 and without imagination or dribble a player with good passes, it is impossible to score goals.

"We have players with good fantasy, players very interesting."

Capello was in Vienna to see Croatia, who will face England in September in their World Cup qualification campaign.

Luka Modric gave the penalty Slaven Bilic side of the head against co-hosts Austria, but they were then required to dig, as Capello expects his own players to do.

"I saw Croatia and their spirit," he said. "They are together as a group, they work hard together, they suffer, they help everybody and it is very important. Without the group, it is impossible to win.

"Also at a World Cup Championship of Europe, the winning team, he has a strong group.

"I spoke with Scolari and I spoke with Lippi, and both told me that the group was very, very strong, very strong unit. The first XI and the entire squad of 23 stayed together and are very focused. "

Bilic eliminated men of England to the stages of qualification for Euro 2008 and believes Capello get the best of them this time will require unity and "fantasy", but also face the pressure that comes with the port of Three Lions.

"The pressure is much more important to your country," said Capello. "It's a big difference.

"That's why a lot of good players playing very well with their clubs, but are not the same as the national team.

'Is an example (Cesc) Fabregas, which is one of the best players in England but often does not play for Spain. It is possible that the pressure is very high and it suffers a little.

'You must choose the player who can play very well in both his club and national team, with the same confidence, the same fantasy and even stronger mentality. "

Capello believes that the pressure May had Dean Ashton 45 minutes in his debut against Trinidad and Tobago, but it is set to give West Ham striker another chance next season.

"It will be with us for the next games as long as he is fit," said the skipper of England.

Among the outstanding issues before next season, Capello has to choose between its two candidates for the England captain permanent.

"It's not important what the position of board plays, but not the goalkeeper," he said. "I prefer a player close to the referee to talk to him."

When the finishing touches are put in place, Capello insists England will be ready to join South Africa in 2010.

"I am very confident that we qualify for the World Cup," he said. "I know better players and they know me now, and I am sure we have a very good team with very good players. I have a lot of confidence for the future. "

Capello has also insisted it will not be afraid to challenge his high-profile players en route if difficult decisions must be made.

"I always do my decision on the status of the player, the mentality and not reputation, because I never pick a player because of the name," he said.

"I choose the players on the group and the quality and not the name.

"There will be no problems to leave their implementation."

Everton are a step closer to leaving Goodison Park

Everton are one step closer to leave Goodison Park after Knowsley Borough Council supported the plans of their new 50,000-capacity ground in Kirkby.

The proposal, made jointly by Everton and Tesco, was adopted at a 20 in a vote at a special meeting of the planning committee of KBC.

It will now go to government planners and a decision will be taken in the next three weeks on whether or not this system must be "called in 'for an investigation.

"We are absolutely delighted with the outcome, and I think the fact that the vote was in no way close - 20 to 1 - shows that Knowsley borough councillors are ready to embrace the regeneration of the area Kirkby, 'Everton CEO Keith Wyness told the club website, evertonfc.com.

"This is another great step forward for us as a football club as we seek to find a new home."

The vote by the Council recommends that "development is now £ 400million adopted by communities and local government Secretary Hazel Blears and the Government Office North-West.

The Secretary of State has at least 21 days, or longer if necessary, take a decision on the application is referred to Council for a final decision or hold a public inquiry.

The plans for Kirkby associated downtown - which include new shops, restaurants, a hotel and offices - will create more than 2300 jobs, including 350 that have affected Tesco for long-term unemployed and Knowsley residents and 700 to the new Tesco store.

Tesco initially submitted their planning application in January. After comments from residents, plans were changed in April and again last month. A total of 63 days were taken by public consultation.

Michael Kissman, spokesman for Tesco said that if the plans have received the final green light, construction of the stadium could begin in July this year and be completed by summer 2010.

Ian Ross, spokesman for Everton, said: "Obviously we're very happy. This is another obstacle clear. This leaves us with one. We want to avoid an appeal by the government.

"It is particularly gratifying that planning committee members voted 20 to one in favour of it. There were 21 members of the committee and 20 have voted for plans and the recommendation and one against.

"All aspects of day match was considered the environment, parking and transportation of fans from Merseyside.

"We spent two years in this research. It is clear that the vast majority of the planning committee were quite pleased with the reports sent to them. type='text'>Sheffield United embarked their legal challenge over the Carlos Tevez affair

Sheffield United today launched their final legal challenge on Carlos Tevez affair in an effort to win compensation for having been relegated a year ago.

The blades took West Ham to an arbitration hearing and are seeking between £ 30 million and £ 50million in compensation.

The Championship club claim the Hammers are responsible for their relegation from the Premier League a year ago, and to play Tevez, their request was ineligible.

West Ham have denied any opportunity to settle before the hearing and insist that they have a solid case, based mainly on the grounds that they had provided all relevant information on Tevez in the Premier League, which subsequently declared "attacker eligible after the Hammers were £ 5.5million fined for violating rules of a third party ownership of players.

Sheffield United has lost an arbitration hearing against the Premier League last year and this action, which takes place under the auspices of the Football Association,
